Limbaugh is hurting Republicans with criticism of Obama

I am surprised by how much hype has been given to the Rush Limbaugh-Barack Obama debate. This is just another in a long line of controversial comments Limbaugh has made. Why are Obama supporters up in arms about this obvious attempt to pull himself out of the ratings slump?

This isn't the first time he has attacked Obama, calling him a "magic negro" and "halfrican American" on two other occasions, according to Media Matters. These controversial blunders, along with many other missteps aimed at higher ratings, have contributed to books and articles published on his inaccuracies for years. Remember Al Franken's "Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations?"

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Rush Limbaugh is a perfect example of a Republican that has hurt his party over the last eight years. Quite a few people don't take Rush seriously and point out that his show is for entertainment purposes only.

Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reily are callous shock jocks. Don Imus was put out to pasture because of a statement he made that wasn't as bad as what Limbaugh has been preaching.

The Republican Party needs a makeover that is less critical and moderate instead of cold, callous and it's my way or the highway. If the Republicans want to make up lost ground they need to have new spokes persons who are not crude, cruel and vile.

What many don't know is Rush Limbaugh got the whole 'Magic Negro' thing from an African American writer named David Ehrenstein.

This is exactly Imus's excuse when he claimed he got his phrase from a rap song.

There isn't anything said that hasn't been said by someone else before, anyone can repeat something.

However, a smart man (or woman ;P) can distinguish between what should and shouldn't be said.

I thought it was a funny way of pointing out that it's liberals who are obsessed with race and identity group politics. And the target of the parody was Al Sharpton, not Obama.

And thank God we still have the 1st amendment instead of a commission of Ohiogals deciding what can and cannot be said.

Face it Libs you want the Republican party to move more towards the center so that we are more acceptable to you. We conservatives are much more tolerant than you lefties that attack anything that is unacceptable to you. You dont like what someone says, protest them. Please tell me how that is tolerant?

The Democrats want to have a bi-partisan solution to things? Your idea of bi-partisan is go along with what we say and keep your mouths shut. Not happening. You can tell us all you want how much damage Rush is doing to the party but the fact is that the ones that take offense to what he says are nothing but RINO's (Republicans In Name Only, for those of you in Rio Linda).

Rush is saying what many of us feel. You want to silence Rush because you dont like what he has to say, how is that tolerant? Please save your lefty BS for someone that cant stand up for themselves and will cowher before the Democrat alter, Rush Limabugh listeners are not those.

Limbaugh is hurting Republicans with criticism of Obama

Utter nonsense.

Limbaugh is hurting Obama by pointing out the Marxist-Emperor Has No Clothes.

Obama's aparatchiks are really desperate to attempt drive a wedge between Rush & his listeners-CLASSIC ALINSKY TACTICS.

What many don't know is Rush Limbaugh got the whole 'Magic Negro' thing from an African American writer named David Ehrenstein.

They don't want to know.

Rave on Druggie Limbaugh

Like druggie Obama?

Not in a world of equality.

Unless, of course, you'll agree to a list of words "negroes" are not allowed to use, then we can agree on a list "caucasians" can use.

and how do you excuse haflican?

You don't have to.

How do you excuse Def Comedy Jam?

It really doesnt matter where the term "magic negro" came from.. yall made a song about it and played it over and over even after teh communtiy said they were offended.

Who cares?

Since when are liberals concerned about "offending" people..they consider it their right, I consider it an EQUAL RIGHT.

Teh emperor is wearing no clothes

And his name is Obama.

We conservatives are much more tolerant than you lefties that attack anything that is unacceptable to you. You dont like what someone says, protest them. Please tell me how that is tolerant?

Conservatives can protest too-with letters written to sponsors of HATE SPEECH-"BOYCOTT" is a scary word.

You can also add Sarah Palin to the list as to why so many of us Dems have negative things to say about the Republican party.

After all a successful business woman, that has held 2 elected offices deserves lib-prog scorn because she refuses to engage in INFANTICIDE.

Though, I wonder if fewer liberals BECAUSE of abortion isn't actually "progress"...hmm

Rush Limbaugh criticising Obama? Boo freakin who. It is called dissent. It is an American Right.

The ironic element in this whole discourse is that I live in Maine, a predominantly liberal state and I am seeing Obama's supporters, (you know the zombies who were at all of the rallies) beginning to feel let down and depressed by his decision-making and the new paint is not even dry in the Whitehouse. I am witnessing increasing numbers of previously enthusiastic (a month ago) supporters slapping themselves on the forehead in shock when he begins fear-mongering rhetoric to try to pass this inane stimulus bill as though to say "who the heck did we elect? Is this the same guy who campaigned against "the politics of fear" and for "the politics of hope"?

I know personally that his supporters are calling Maine citizens currently to instill fear in them to motivate Mainers to contact their legislators to plead for support of this bill. I got a call today. You should have heard this caller's BS.

For those of you leftists in the know-not, Rush got the "Barack the magic negro" from a newspaper editorial, I think in the Los Angeles Times, written by one of your own as I recall. That was why he picked up on it. He didn't make it up and he did not use it in a racist manner. It was your side's term. But the tactic of purposely out of context to "prove" a falsehood is one of your well-known tactics. Stay with your gameplan: If you can't beat them, cheat them. It worked for the Nov 08 elections.

Rush cares about money. He's not stupid. His career rides the ebb and flow of the political pendulum. He knows he'll get more listeners if he holds a hard line approach to his rhetoric. I don't believe he cares half as much as he claims about conservatism, Republicans, or anything other than keeping his job. He's a radio personality...nothing more and nothing less. He's there to drive ratings, and he well knows that the best way to do that is to be inflamatory in his comments.

Take him for what he is and there really becomes little reason to get too upset over him.

IHawk, that might be believable if Rush had a liberal counterpart just as successful, but there is none and never will be. The liberals have the inflammatory statement rhetoric mastered and it didn't do them any good in their feeble attempts to get a liberal radio personality to compete with Rush.

Rush is genuine and that is the secret of his success. He gets to be himself. That also means he's steady in his hard line conservatism because that is who he is. His show has thrived no matter the party in power.

The left doesn't or can't get it. And their frustration is fueled by $400 million in envy.

The biggest angst against Rush has been his quote of being against Pres. Obama and the use of the phrase " He wants him to fail" and leaving out why he wants him to fail in.

This hasn't hurt Republicans at all as they do not base their policy on what he says.

Proof in point, If they followed his thoughts why did the republicans fail to get re-voted in? They didn't follow anything he said.

The only spoof to this tape I sent you to, was the part of the communism for dummies.

If you'd like, I will send you to the real full length news video, with this Liberals actual view, with no Spoof inserted, and it makes those comments by Maxine Waters, who liberals keep voting in, sound even worse.

      Greg,

I could send you hundreds of clips were the Republicans have goofed up but it would be a waste of time.

Proof in point, If they followed his thoughts why did the republicans fail to get re-voted in? They didn't follow anything he said.

If you believe in him enough to suggest the Republican Party should follow his policies you are one of the poor souls I was talking about in another post.

It wasn't a goof. If you watch the entire real news video, she goes on to say government should own the oil companies. Is that a goof, when you say it in a different way. Heres the entire news video. You could see the others on the panel, sit back and say, Crap!! She said it.

Will re-post the link as it seems to have a problem.

You still didn't say, if they didn't follow him Why did they fail?

You can call me a poor soul all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that the entire feeling of Republicans follow Rush is false. You need to show where his advise was followed, then you could say they failed because of him.

Does smaller government, no government intervention and less government spending, not appeal to you?

Thank you for the link. Classic Gore-bots trying to convince Americans that Mr. Limbaugh is somehow not an American. There is a knob or set of buttons on your radio, just use it and your world will be pleasant. Uniformed but pleasant. You aren't able to make me listen to the rhetoric of the current administration or the gore-bot congress the same as I"m unable to make you (gore-bots/demo-libs) listen to the voice of reason. For damn sure the gore-bot's agenda will not include anyone with a mind of their own. The demo-libs find it easier to try and "push" the mindless. Case in point, they got nearly 67 million folks to waste their vote on wishful change and empty promises. Tad bit of bitter reality for you gore-bots.

There's a gun in my hand, should I just use it to make the airways more pleasant? A joke is a joke and satire is satire. But prejudice and bigotry and hate hidden behind tongue-in-cheek, shock-jock entertainment is not a joke. I never cared for Don Rickles but he insults everyone in every way. He does not single out a nationality or group. And his stye is obviously humor. If we have to be told that it is humor or entertainment then it is not. If a large part of the population finds it insulting while another large parts finds it funny, it is meant to be hurtful.

Isn't Rush Limbaugh the covicted drug abuser who tried to hide his drug abuse 1st behind his housekeeper and then 2nd under someone elses name? I mean thats real identity theft. I myself am truly surprised that he is held up by the Republican Party as a example to young Americans of what conservative leadership is supposed to be. When in truth he is no better than a crazy opinionated crack head you could find standing on any corner of America. The only difference between Rush and other dope addicts is he is Republican I can remember how the Republicans ridiculed Bill Clinton because he " didn't inhale" now the same people are holding this dope addict up as a symbol of virtue. I ask you to please gimme a break.

Obama didn't try to get other people to get his drugs for him either. While Obama admits using cocaine a few times Rush had to get busted to come clean with society.

Many people think that Rush is the voice of the Republican Party now that Bush is gone and McCain lost the election. Some people might not believe what Rush says on his show but there are many people that take what he says as gospel.

Obama outed himself, wasn't charged, didn't have a housekeeper to blame it on and did persecute and ridicule everyone who was addicted when he was doing what he said others shouldn't do. It is his blaming everyone else and not taking responsibility for his nefarious behavior.

If Rush had been broke and black he would still be in prision. Instead he is rich and white, can afford the best treatment facilities, doctors and lawyers - so he doesn't do any time. It appears to me that Neo-Con Republican's are against fair judges, lawyers and blind justice.

Notice - I know alot of moderate republicans who are for blind justice as are moderate democrates. Fear the far right and far left. They don't represent what is great for the US.

Did Obama try and hide his use of drugs? Unlike you who is trying to excuse a 50+ year old dope addict by comparing him and his addiction to the recreational use of drugs by a college student?

Did Obama have other people buy drugs for him?

Did Obama get fake prescriptions made out in other peoples names?

You really need to learn to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges and face the fact that you are excusing behavior of Rush Limbaugh, behavior that you would probably condemn if it was anyone else.

But because you and other members of the Republican Party think that somehow he is helping advance your party ideas you blindly choose to overlook. But despite all the conservative talk show bashers and smashers like Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, all of Fox News and especially Rush Limbaugh the American People elected the Democratic candidate for President

This recent election proved that, and there can be no clearer indication of the rejection by the American people of the Republican Party as well as their ideas. It only further emphasizes that the people rejected Republican leadership and ideas that have for the last 8 years proved to be such a disaster for the economy of this country if not the world.

              Studiusbagus

I never said Bush was my hero. I think he was a dumbass as well and also an embarassment to the Republican Party.

Obama doesn't even come close to the screw-up Bush is.

Only time will tell on that one. Lets hope not.

I wish that McCain would have won the primary back in 2000.

              I do as well.

Did Obama try and hide his use of drugs? Unlike you who is trying to excuse a 50+ year old dope addict by comparing him and his addiction to the recreational use of drugs by a college student?

No obviously he didn't try and hide it. Thats actually refreshing. I'm not trying to excuse anyone for breaking the law and doing hardcore drugs. I'm just saying if everyone can jump on Rush about doing drugs, then why can't we do so to an elected official? Just being devils advocate here.

This is what bugs me about the right. The fact that they profess to be the REAL patriots in America, and want only the good things for us. Yet their chief windbag can publicly state that he wants the elected president of the US to FAIL and no on is up in arms on the Repub side. I don't know much and I certainly was no fan of Dubya but I never wanted him to fail, I thought he would on several fronts, and he didn't disappoint but to actively hope that a president will make things worse sounds like a desire to see the US go down the tubes. Real Patriot, he would like to see the US go up in flames just to prove how "right" he is.

No rational person wants to see the other side make things worse, you hope that things at least stay the same until your side can get into power and "fix" them your way. To hope for anything else is to put personal revenge above the good of the country and about the least patriotic way one can be.

That is false so lets just clear this up. That is taking a sound bite and cutting it in half. This is what Rush said.

Rush stated that he hopes Obama is successful in strengthening the economy and making the country better. He then said, if Obama's intentions are to turn America into a socialist country, then I hope he fails (fails at turning us into a social country, THATS IT !)

He said he hopes Obama is successful, but if Obama's intentions are to turn America into a socialist country he then hopes he will fail.

I hope that clears that matter up.

The reason people can jump on Limbaugh is because he himself made an issue of drug users and what the consequences should be for them. Then excludes himself from those consequences with ridiculous excuses for why he takeds drugs.

That is hypocritical and I agree. The only valid excuse for taking drugs would be those who smoke pot for legitimate medical purposes. The rest is just rubbish.

You know, I see a lot of you lefties still whining over the statement that Rush made about that he hopes Obama fails. How many of you have actually made the effort to go and find what he was really talking about? Or is that a bit difficult because you have your sound bite and actually listeneing to what he was referring to would only cause you to reverse course?

Rush, when he made the comment about Obama failing, was referring to his policies and his socialistic tendencies. Will you be going after any one that actually has the audacity to vote against Obama? Voting against him is the equivalent as stating you want his programs to cease and dissist, or fail.

All of you want to bash Rush because of his drug use, or becasue of his "Magic Negro" parody, because you feel he is intollerant and preaches hate. Look at the posting in this thread, you have lefties that want him dead, others that refer to him as a pedofile (which in this instance is supposed to be the moderator, how pathetic) without anything other than speculation dueto him carryin Viagra back from an all male getaway, and the list goes on. I know that Rush is harsh on some groups, but he never preaches the kind of hatred that I hear coming from the left, especially from the little pissants that I see posting in here.

You liberals are pathetic!!! The Republican party is what it is and we have our weaklings in it, we call them moderates, that disagree with Rush. But the fact remains that there are many, many of us that agree with him and will never cowtow to your demands that silence Rush because he hurt your poor little feelings.

Get some Kleenex, clean yourselves up, and grow the hell up!

I have a lot of friends who are moderate Republicans. Many of them are good people but the far right neocons remind me of a cult. I have been a registered Independent for several decades.

And just FYI Mr. Radmacher, if you want to use the term "neocons" please use it properly. Neocons are not the far right conservatives, they are the moderates. This term was coined back in 1973 and was referring to Liberals that were disillusioned in the party and moved to the right. And we in the Republican party do not need supporters like yourself. I cant speak for everyone else but I would rather see the Republican part go by the wayside than to ever have it embrace liberalism as viable solution.

              Complete supporter of Rush Limbaugh!

the difference between obama and rush is one is a publicly elected official and one is an entertainer. cons are always blasting the hollywood/liberal connection yet they worship at the feet of a talk-show host!

the irony lies in he fact that rush spews all this supposed informed political information but in reality he's nothing more than an actor trying to make $$$. he's a TALK SHOW HOST! no different than oprah, donahue, springer, ellen, etc.

the only reason he makes these comments (akin to leno and letterman's daily monologues) is to increase his rating share for the markets he's in. it has nothing to do with authentic news reporting, concern for the nation, etc., he's merely an actor with a daily gig on the radio.

if he was truly political and passionate about playing a role in making the nation a better place he would have gotten into public service years ago. he's just like stern and opie/anthony - just a radio jock looking to make his sponsors $$$ and renew his contract year to year.

"pay the man behind the curtain no attention," as another actor once said. the day i start listening to and believing anything an actor has to say is the day I'll choose an actor that is a lot cooler than rush to listen to.

he's even got the whole drug addiction/abuse/rehab thing going too. Maybe there's a hollywood award show in his future! or a star on the walk of fame!

              Mookdookie -

The please explain why Oprah Winfry was paraded back and forth for Obama? Why so many Hollywood types were courted for Obama? Why the Left is so beholden to the Hollywood types?

Face it, whether you like it or not, or whether the actor that will not listen to Rush likes it or not, they are pertinent because they have a stage to spew their beliefs. Whether it is Rush, or any others that you may or may not agree with.

Why is it that when the Hollywood crowd makes a movie like "Rendition" and refers to it as a very important piece of cinema that others see it as brave of them to make a movie like that? It is a movie that gives America a black eye based on its content. Or Fahrenheit 9/11 by Mr. Moore, that it actually won somewhere in the neighborhood of 26 awards and was supposed to be a "documentary" even though it was discovered that there were editing issues, and aprticipants suing him becasue of false representations. But none of these people were held up to the same scrutiny as Rush Limbaugh for his statement about Obama failing.

Face it libs, you are just bent about someone fighting back and not rolling over and taking it from you any longer. Your in power, you have the White House, you have the Senate, you have the House of Representatives, what more do you want? Does a paunchy middle aged white guy that needs viagra really pose that much of a threat to you that you have to create a whole "Crush Rush"campaign? Your house of cards is beginning to crumble and your "stimulus" package is the undoing of it.

George W. Bush is gone, Rush is still here. Couldn't find any other boogy man to fear?

"jarhead" (presuming you're a military person, no?)

like i said, Rush is an entertainer, plain and simple. i could care less what celebrities endorse what political party or what Americans are stupid enough to think that movies are an unbais presentation of facts. Fahrenheit 9/11 has about as much "truth" as Rush's radio show. Its all entertaiment, that all. if you think that Rush really cares about the topics he waxes poetically on, or is seriously concerned about the fate of the nation or its citizens then you are just as foolish as the next victim of the mutlinational entertainment conglomerates production.

You are exactly right, they dont want the truth becasue if they actually cared about it they would have it, it is quite easy to find. It is easier to go with a sound bite, a blurb, an accusation, an inuendo.

              Mookdookie,

When I referenced those movies at no time did I care about what you believed. What I was referencing was that there is a double standard in this country when it comes to entertainers and radio talk show hosts. Entertainers can run their pie holes all they want and say whatever they feel with no expectations of ramifications, take the Dixie Hicks for example. Rush Limbaugh makes statements and the left is calling for his proverbial head on a platter.

And yes, I do believe Rush. I disagree with him on some topics, but I do believe him. And because you, or any other liberal tell me that I am a fool for believing him does not make me stop. If that were the case I would have stopped going to church a long time ago because the libs told me there was no god. (And before you say it, I am not comparing Rush to God. I am making the comparison of things I was told to not believe by lefties).

just as foolish as the next victim of the mutlinational entertainment conglomerates production.

You sound like Tom Tuttle From Tacoma Washington in the movie Volunteers!

And yes, I am a member of the American Empire Militaristic Complex. A military person? I'm a friggin' Marine! ( "a military person?" that sounds so cutesy and politically correct)

there is nothing wrong with smoking herb for recreation, even if your government says you can't. I would never look to any government and it's laws for what is right in my life, especially not a government that has screwed up this badly. Slavery use to be legal but I hope i would never support such brutal evil, whether it was legal or not. I think you need to look at the rationality behind anything your government says, and if it doesn't coincide with your personal morality then practice civil disobedience. The fact is the government is never always right and very often it is terribly wrong. that doesn't mean that I am not extremely active in trying to change the laws that i feel are wrong. but, I'm not waiting for reason and logic to prevail in a society that expects its leaders to bow before "God."

It has nothing to do with that. At the end of the day, the way Rush and all the rest make money is being a pitch man. The problem for all of them is that no one is buying so their revenue sucks.

What is making it worse is the fact that none of the "conservative" talk show crowd is court, promoting, more so running down into the dirt, the businesses and products people want, like green energy, better transportation means etc.

So the some big decissions are coming because at the end of the day, it is the audience that pays the bills. If Rush truly wanted to survive, he would promote a solar panel company or something simular, but he will not. so he will fall by the wayside.

If all those things that you mentioned were actually things that people wanted, Rush could not stop them from being sold if he proclaimed them Anti-americn himself. Fact is tree-tards want to jam these products down our throat because they are good for the planet.

Bad news for you, Rush just signed a new agreement for eight years for $400,000,000 dollars. Amazing huh? Apparently not prescribing to the hug a tree save a whale lifestyle is just destroying him! If it helps, his Gulfstream G550 jet is fuel efficient. NAH! Just kidding, that sucks up tons of fuel also! There are millions of them Many right here on the vine with us praticing censorship and keeping alive repoclubs of the true beleivers ready to march for palin or any other cause they are called to...

Get this quote from a long article leading a republican love fest and cirlce tug I found yesterday...

"No for me the tears came much later that inauguration day as I watched President Bush and his family flying off into the horizon en route back to Texas. I was overwhelmed with conflicting emotions---pride, disappointment, and sudden loss. I hadn’t sobbed like that at a DC event since I watched the memorial services for President Reagan. I did not realize the depth of my emotional attachment to our 43rd President but there it was."

Hey to each there own for sure. But.... Doesn't a statement like this enable us to take stock of what kind of mind is in tears over Bush leaving office at that point?. You are past the 80% who outright hated him and past the ones who are disapointed right into the few who really really love the complete and absolute failure of George Bush and his presidency.

I'm not saying we have to hang Bush but dang....

So there is the answe rto the who or if people listen to and follow Rush. Oh hell yeah they do. He is more powerful then any republican in congress right now. Republicans crawl to him and lick his boots the spineless worms they are.

And Rush in that seat of power is wrong and dangerous to us as a country.

I wish evry Rush supporter would google these two searches...

                1) Rush Limbaugh drug addict

                2) Rush Limbaugh sex tourist

Go ahead Republicans, do it, and if you can still support Rush well then bless ya for that I geuss. But if you come away with a taste of vomit in your throat then maybe as a Republican you should raise your voice and tell Rush and the Republican congress that no!!! NO! you do not want that man to have any influence over your party and its politics...

Or keep quiet about it, stay in line, don't reason for yourself and say baaaa.

Rush isn't an elected official or running for any political office so why do people care so much about him or what he says? Like I said.. if you don't like listening to him.. DON'T. He isn't the spokesman for the GOP. He is just telling his opinion on things like it or not style. That is what freedom of speech is right? You might not agree, but then again.. that is what makes America so great. Everyone needs to get off his ass. Who cares.

I googled them and I found much speculation. Please provide the web pages that will show me hard evidence of these accusations. As for the viagra, and the doctor shopping due to the prescription pill addiction; well viagra is used by millions of men,and some women from what I have heard, and is hardly a reason for a conviction becasue he went to the Dominican Republic. If there were any evidence of his utilzing the sex trades in the country that the left would not have found it by now?

Rush Limbaugh is a private citizen, he is very outspoken for his dislike of democrats, but when the Federal Govt. begins to turn their sights on a private citizen because they do not like what he has to say or how he is saying it, that should worry every one of us. Regardless of who it is, we all have the freedom of speech, whether you like what is being said or not.

You know, just as a side note, I dont remember anyone telling George Clooney to be quiet when he was making fun of Charlton Hestons Alzheimers. When Clooney was asked about his comments He stated

"I don't care. Charlton Heston is the head of the National Rifle Association; he deserves whatever anyone says about him." George Clooney referring to Charlton Heston and the Alzheimers comment.

                http://www.thebostonchannel.com/entertainment/1931445/detail.html

The left still embraces him no matter how insensitive his statements were. He is a private citizen though isnt he, we cant silence that now can we? Well Obama is the head of the Democratic Party, I guess he deserves whatever is said about him doesnt he?

                Jar,

First let me say I am not a leftie and to Clooney I don't want to get involved, go ahead and hang him if he has done wrong, blagovich, shoot that bastid use my gun. I grew up between Nixon and Daley, I think both sides have a lot to feel shame for and much that can not be defended. Politicians, screw em all.

But no doubt... Obama is a hell of a politician and more important, our president, right now he is what we have and on that, like I did bush, I think get behind and help the man or shut the hell up. It is how I tend. But not kool aid. that isn't fair so don't.

The Rnc, the Republican party can try but they can not deny Osama is free and laughing at this mess, thousands and thousands are dead, trillions spent and we are in two wars and the economy? well dang I really don't even have to say anything there do I? There are riots beginning world wide. We are in extreme danger...EXTREME DANGER.

                Now to Rush....

pardon me, I won't bother to paste links, I can't do the neat word/link thing so it gets messy, but everything is open and out in the news so what I say is at the least a reasonable interpretation of the events.

Rush is a huge drug addict and if you can read the stories of his little trips abroad and come away saying that you see nothing there to question I have to suggest that you love Rush with blinders on. If it was anyone else the right would have a heart attack over it. For goodness sake look what we did to the Dixie chicks. To defend Rush and his faults personally is just you being you. To do it in the name of “conservatism” or the Republican party or the right in general is an immense hypocrisy.

Now consider that a Republican congressman who openly challenged Rush was made to come on his show and lick his boots. What does that say about his power? That is why I don't take well the idea of he is just a Radio Jock, ignore him.

Frankly I think ignoring Rush is as dangerous as ignoring Joe McCarthy was.

So to trying to deflect to Charlie or George, nope not the same.

To being able to swallow rationalizations for Rush and his drugs and travels well to each his own.

                But...

As to accepting Rush and his influence on politics and how he can command the spineless and ignorant republican congress to do his bidding. As to Rush and his ability to command and excite the "base" of the Republican Party....

Well my friend I am a republican and I say no.

I say I am an American first and in this time of such extreme danger the Republican Party must come to terms with its failures. It must put Limbaugh in his place. It must get behind solutions and stop the obstructionist attempts to block the president and confuse the public.

I myself, a Reagan Republican, stand with Obama. I believe in his asking for America to stop being Blue and Red. I believe he represents a much better America then is being touted and harangued by Rush for his own selfish interests to the detriment of all Americans and that the Republican Party by tolerating it and openly allowing it is verging on, is playing in, a pool so deep and dark, well… I hesitate to say “treason” but at the least it shows a base ignorance and a denial of reality.

That’s what I think anyway. I may be wrong. It is bound to happen someday and today may be that day for all I know.

This made me laugh. If you truly believe this then I have a bridge to nowhere to sell you. Reagan Republican my eye! You are a democrat in disguise as evidenced by your long diatribe signifying nothing. Obama is as far left as you can go. He is blatantly trying to sell us a rotten bill of goods as evidenced by his running around the country trying to drum up support for this loser of a stimulus package. This spending spree is nothing but a thank you gift to all his democrat buddies who got him into power. I suggest sir, that you look through the stimulus bill carefully.

Let's start with healthcare. Do you care about your parents or grandparents? Well, if you study this bill, you will find on around page 442 a proposition that creates another government bureaucracy and not only creates a national database full of your medical records but would allow the federal government to tell your doctor that he or she can't treat you because you are old and expendable. Don't believe me, check it out.

Welcome to Socialized Medicine! And by the way, no one is reporting on this but guess who? That's right Rush Limbaugh. Hmmm, why would the mainstream media not be reporting this???? http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601039&refer=columnist_mccaughey&sid=aLzfDxfbwhzs

Limbaugh may entertain some but he incites others who believe what he says is truth. I'd like to see something positive come from the "mouthpieces" of the Republican Party. If that happened we would have news. I've watched Ann Coulter in interview and couldn't hear the message over the snarled lip attack voice. To me getting loud or cursing to make a point means that you don't really have a point to make. If The Republicans don't disown these these preachers of hate they will lose those who are not hard core or fanatics.

I lost what little remaining respect I had for Limbaugh one day when he played a bastardized version of the theme from The Jeffersons in association with a commentary about Roland Burris. Now I listen to the show only for the purpose of making a list of local sponsors that I intend to boycott. Any local business that chooses to advertise during his show will not be getting my business.

Perhaps since G.E. is getting a huge chunk of bailout money, Olbermann and co. will take a decrease in pay. Afterall, if all the CEO's of all the banks and companies we are bailing out with our hard earned tax dollars have to have a cap on their salaries, why not Olbermann????

For example, GE Financial received billions of dollars in federal Troubled Asset Relief Program funds. GE will gain money through the energy-efficient retrofitting of municipal buildings -- the next generation of light bulbs is sold by GE.

This money was allocated in the Republican Bill not in the Stimulus package that was just passed.

MSNBC is an affiliate of Microsoft and General Electric and it was the Republican Bill that gave them the money. I don't know what Keith Olberman makes but if they need to cut his pay I am sure it will be announced.

Republican Law Makers are not afraid to offend him. They have already read between the lines. Rush has criticized Republicans, maybe not as much as Democrats, but has criticised even John McCain for not being conservative enough and critized him big on the immigration policies he had.

Limbaugh is great for Barack Obama. All Barack has to do is to tie opposition to his message of change with Rush and everything he wants to get done will get done. Moderate republicans don't want to be associated with that clown and will move toward Obama more everytime that buffoon Rush opens his mouth and makes another ignorant statement. Barack has to have this be a you're with me or you're with Rush choice and we all win.

He might even be capable of turning a young neocon into a domestic terrorist.

I'll bet the Koran inspires a young "progressive" to become a domestic terrorist first...hey look, Johnny "Taliban" Walker Lindh and his two-daddies says I win!

Is he really a Pedophile? When I looked up Rush Limbaugh, little boys and the Dominican Republic thinking he might have actually done some good, instead I get Google hits that say he is a pedophile? I guess he also got busted for bringing Viagra back with him.

Rush and Michael Jackson seem to have quite a bit in common.

Rush limbaugh has good lawyers and lots of money at his disposal to sue your ass over comments like this. Just letting you know that I e-mailed this comment to him. As a matter of fact he now has your whole column.

Craig19, is 19 your age? The reason I am asking is no one that has lived very long would say something like this. In the first place I didn't write article I just seeded it. There is no way he is going to sue someone for a column like this. If you could get in trouble for talking about someone like this Rush would be in jail for life. It is also against the CoH to threaten other posters.

I would welcome seeing Rush sue someone since the discovery would require much of what he tries to hide coming to light. After all, he'd have to be under oath and show what he was doing in the Dominican Republic and be open about his drug use.

                                      The loser would be him.

It truly is amazing and silly how one side can whine a moan and be so ugly and hostile most all of the time, but when they think the other side does it, it becomes a national travesty. Being such a middle of the road person about 2 years ago, I have to say that the UNDENIABLE hypocracy and whining from the left and the media has definitely pushed me closer to another side. (trust me, I wasn't looking to really 'take sides') Now, I don't always agree with any one view all the time, but I am really repelled by the slant and it disgusts me.

Rush doesn't want every bit of America to become Nationalized. He hopes that Obama fails at taking America in that direction. Me too! That's just a no brainer to me. And I feel that way BECAUSE I love my country and want it to be recognizable for my children and grandchildren because I believe in it. Now, so what?

Can we please grow up and decide that we can make up our own minds on things? Or will we be told we need a bailout from free thought as well (Fairness Doctrine, anyone?)

Find me a similar quote from Limbaugh whining about Bush nationalizing our banks and I might believe you're a "centrist".

And if by nationalisation you mean making the same basic changes to the way we approach issues like heath care, corporate regulation and social spending that have been tested and adopted in virtually every civilized country EXCEPT the US then nationalise away. Or we can continue on down this 19th century path to a two class society that we are on now.

If you can't even find evidence to support your claims, that hardly makes me ignorant. And by the way, the point of my post wasn't about Rush criticizing bailouts...it was about him criticizing nationalization when it suited his purpose. Please find me a quote where Limabugh criticized, specifically, George W. Bush and the nationalization of our banks. Just criticizing the TARP bill doesn't cut it.

Again, more ignorance. TARP is the bank bailout bill and it has been the basis for the criticism over "nationalization" of the banks. I don't have time to source every little thing you don't believe. Suffice it to say Rush was very critical, specifically of the preamble to the bill, which seems to confer absolute power onto the Secretary of the Treasury to ensure Americans economic well-being.:

RUSH: I think this is worth pointing out, ladies and gentlemen, reminding people: that is my observation of the TARP law as written. As far as I know, I am the only one who made anyone aware of what the Democrat Congress authorized in legislation authorizing TARP. Let me just read it to you once again. "Section 1. Short Title. 'Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008.' Section 2. Purposes. Provides authority to the Treasury Secretary to restore liquidity and stability to the US financial system and to ensure the economic well-being of Americans." That was the law. That's the bailout law. That Section 2, Purposes, says the Treasury secretary has the authority. He is a czar, he is a dictator --

So why is he only critical of the president and "nationalization" when a Democrat is in office? I still see no evidence that Limbaugh has criticized the stimulus bill and the TARP bill equally. In both instances, he placed the blame squarely on Democrats...only now, he decides to include the President in his vitriol, while he ignored Bush in the earlier bill. NOW he cries about nationalization, where he completely ignored the fact that we nationalized our banks with a similarly expensive bailout under Bush. Rather hypocritical, no?

Why can't a warning be accepted for what it is instead of turning it into an argument of what a COH violation might be. This takes things off topic, causes unnecessary escalation, and wastes time and space. Debate the topic not the COH.

Quite true. I listen to his show 3-4 times a week during my lunch break and I never heard him bash Bush a single time for wanting the TARP bill. It was all the fault of the Democrats who wrote the bill and passed it, not the fault of the president who signed it into law. If a Republican president wants something and the Democratic Congress gives it to him, the Democrats are to blame. Makes sense to me.

Heads up to everyone. The delete button was not working today. I was afraid to let anyone know about it because I didn't want to have this seed turn into a circus. I've been in contact with Tyler and they are working on it and it is sort of working now. Tomorrow I will go over the seed and I will delete any posts that violate the COH. Even the seeders that were daring me to delete their comments.

The latest repub proposal is a fraud...Median income families of 4 make around $50,000---You would have to have income of $88,000 to owe $15,000 in taxes...This is a one time credit that goes to the upper class. IFmiddle class could get a loan- they would have to have 20% for a down payment! There is no carry forward...this is for the upper-class and a smoke screen from the crooks in the Senate..DO NOT BUY THis PIG IN THE POLK!

                                        Call Congress 1.800.828.048...

You would deduct the 15k from your income, not from your tax bill. So, if you made $50,000, with a family of 4, you would benefit greatly. You would be able to take a $15000 deduction from your AGI. So, if your AGI was $35,000, you would deduct $15,000. That would mean you would reduce end up saving $1,500 bucks. Unless they pass it as a refundable tax credit. If they do that, you will reduce it from your taxes owed. That would mean if you owed $1,000 at the end of the year, you would instead receive a $14,000 refund.

In future dictionaries, the term Limbaugh will refer to people who support identity politics in ways deemed unAmerican.

                                            Examples:
                                            - Operation Chaos: encourage riots at the Democratic convention
                                            - Switch parties to vote for the person you want to defeat
                                            - Wish that the President fails at helping America

Turn the clock back and McCarthy would make the first subpoena for Limbaugh.

Turn the clock back even further and even Benedict Arnold would have competition.

I love how anyone the left disagrees with is "unamerican." Whatis "unamerican" is to not allow free speech and free thought and disagreement. To blatantly misrepresent one's thoughts and opinions. Why is the left so afraid of letting everyone speak their mind? Remind anyone of anything cough *Stalin* cough.

                                            Pacific Northwest Blogger -

                                            Examples:
                                            - Operation Chaos: encourage riots at the Democratic convention
                                            - Switch parties to vote for the person you want to defeat
                                            - Wish that the President fails at helping America

                                            Juyst a quick note here.

Operation Chaos encouraging riots at the DNC is a falsehood. Operation Chaos merely was supporting Hilary Clinton to mess with the Democrats nomination process. If you are concerned about riots at conventions please refer tothe link below. I am certain you will somehow be able to tell me how the "anarchists" that are extremely well organized (not sure how that happened) are prooting "disruption" of the RNC. I just dont believe they are talking about stealing all the foam fingers or the painting "Palin" on all the elephants.

                                            http://anarchistnews.org/?q=node/5584

Switching parties to help defeat the person you dislike has been going on since voting has began, hence the laws in some states that forbid it. But on a bright note, Ohio laws did not, so on with the show! The difference between what Rush did and what Acorn did is Rush had the guts to come out and say that is what he wanted vs. lying about it like some that were elected President of the United States in 2008, but I won't name names becasue that would not be right.

Wishing that the President fails at helping America? He never stated that he hopes Obama fails to help America, he stated that he hopes Obama fails, as do I. I hope any socialist fails, or any socialist policy for that matter, Rush stated that he hopes Obama's socialist policies fail.

O.K. sorry about the disruption please go back to what you saying.

Quick to respond with harsh critique, feeling guilty?

I find it interesting that you jump on my statement and apply the term liberal and start exaggerating my reference to reflect 1st amendment issues, free speech and even suggest I reference that Republican's are unAmerican.

I referenced Limbaugh listeners, not Republican's. There's still hope for Republican's in general. They just need to oust their leadership and get back to focusing on limited government and fiscal responsibility - none of which Republican's have shown since the Eisenhower era.

I do think many people listen to Limbaugh for what he is, an entertainer, a talk show host who specializes in controversy. Then again, there are many people who listen Howard Stearn.

No where did I say I Limbaugh can't speak, I merely suggested a future dictionary reference.

It amazes me how people come down on others when they disagree with a viewpoint then use bully tactics to try and textually shout down opinion. Be thankful we all have free speech and the right to express our opinions...

By your basic philosophies and ideals, if anyone believes or dares listent o Rush he or she is a neocon. Well I'm not and I try to see both sides, unfortunately, the seeder of this thread and a few subsequent threads by others show the genral Liberal mode of attacking, calling names, and then trying like heck to make whatever is convenient stick. That is the standard Liberal tactic. For each claim you make against Rush or others, you can guarantee that are that many against BHO. As a matter of fact, the so-called transperancy of his administration is showing in his picks for Treasury, Commerce and others. Hasn't Obama's choice of Daschle shown he is making the same errors as the others? Well lets pack that in to this thread to and use it against Obama. Forgot, I can only mudsling if the facts are shadey and not verified by creditble sources such as the NY Times, and others of that ilk use.

You can stick up for Rush all you want and try to judge me and the other seeders. I have also listened to Rush just to get turned off by his lack of civility, his hypocrisy and self proclaimed genius. He is a legend in his own mind.

You really don't appear to see both sides. You use the word liberal like it is a cuss word. Then rant and rave about how bad Obama is. You can listen to both men speak and Obama clearly has the advantage of intelligence and humility. Rush doesn't have the word humble is his dictionary.

                                            Mr. Radmacher -

I do not mean to be disrespectful here but I am sorry, I do use the term liberal like it a cuss word because I find many of the beliefs that come from the left as repugnant as what I curse about stepping in.

I have made the mistake of listening to Air America and the attaks that come flowing forth make Rush Limbaugh look like a spitballer in a cannon fight.

Obama does sound intelligent, no doubt about it, but can he do it for three hours every day? Ah, ah, no teleprompters, no speech writers, just Obama. He can have a show prep team just like Rush, but I do truly doubt that his perceived intelligence may drop a bit. Heck, we will even let him have a call screener. Please understand that by no means to I mean to infer taht he is an idiot simply becasue I disagree with him, to do that would only make me look like an intollerant jacka$$.

As for the humility, I dont listen to him because of humility, I listen to him because I enjoy what he has to say and how he says it. But I will beg to differ that his humility is not present, it is, but it is shrouded by his self engrandizing sarcasm. Much like the late great George Carlin, what he had to say was very sarcastic, but often made sense. You just had to listen to him long enough to get the whole picture, not just until he said something that offended you and then change the channel and label him as many have.

Listening to Rush is a acquired taste, it is not for everyone. I do not like brussel sprouts, I find them bitter and nasty, but I do not berate those that do becasue they find something good in them.

Jar, I find many of the things the conservatives say totally repugnant. The lies, half-truths simply put are totally unintelligent.

Any group that lies like the republicans do need controls. Now, I'm not saying that Dems haven't. So they also need controls. Since neither one will take care of it themselves they need regulated, that hated word.

                                            jaywow67,

I disagree about the regulations limiting speech, but I will agree to the fact that we can find persons on both sides that we feel lie about certain items. And that is something that I feel does need to be addressed, responsibility in reporting. I believe that Rush Limbaugh is not a reporter, what his show consists of are his viewpoints. But withthat being said, if he presents something that is out and out a lie he should be called on it and it should be penalized.

                                            Jarhead,

I don't have a problem with people have different opinions than I do. There are ways to respectfully agree and disagree. I am Independent and I did vote for George Bush Senior and I still think he was the most underrated President of last Century. He also was able to admit that he made mistakes and change course when he needed to even if it was unpopular.

People like Rush Limbaugh, Bill o"Riley and Ann Coulter are just rude. Sometimes I think they are in a contest to see which one of them can be the rudest. The Republican Party would be better off if they could find a spokesperson who didn't get on a lot of peoples nerves.

I believe any "public airways show" should be called for truth-baiting. That goes for MSNBC to Fox. If found to be irresponsible then fine them, heavily.

                                            jaywow,

We will agree to disagree about Rush, but I will agree on the irresponsible broadcasting. And the panel to consist of a multitude of representatives from across the spectrum.

                                            Mr. Radmacher,

I appreciate your honesty about George H.W. Bush, and I agree that he is very under rated and unfortunately all people seem to remember is "read my lips ..." However, your statement regarding Rush, Anne, et. al, is rather one sided. I find personalitites like Keith Olberman, Jon Stewart, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Al Franken(before he went into politics), to be incredibly grating. The problem I find with you is that you want teh Republicans to find a spokesperson that does not get on peoples nerves, even though these are not spokespersons for the Republican party. They are Republicans that are just very outspoken.

The personalities that I referenced, do they speek for all of Lefty Nation? Of course not, but so many in Lefty Nation label Rush as our Guiding light and spokesperson when all Rush is is a radio talk show host that certainly seems to get under Lefties skin. The spokesperson for the RNC is Michael Steele (see we have minorites in the RNC, I know what some of you were thinking).

So please, when you reference Rush, I am not asking anyone to like him or dislike him, but please understand that the Republicans spokesperson is Michael Steele, not Rush Limbaugh or any of the others you Lefties detest. Rush does not answer to the RNC, and the RNC does not answer to Rush. Regardless of what many may think.

Here's a whole website devoted to his buffoonery and sham reporting. http://www.olbermannwatch.com/archives/2009/01/olbermanns_late_2.php

Rush, O'Reilly, Hannity, etc. are radio personalities, not reporters. They shouldn't be held to the same standard. Olbermann is supposedly a "journalist." That means that he should have professional ethics and standards. He is a joke of a reporter and should be judged as such, problem is, some people think he's credible.

Jar if I have a fact that needs checking I will give the site. I didn't fine a site that checked your facts on your statements and you didn't read the statement above yours very well and how I phrased it.

If you, meaning you, use a site for fact checking you might try using one that is obviously not extremely bias. Use half-bias ones at least.

You stated that Keith Olberman gave facts with his rants, while I have heard coming from Keith Olberman using MoveOn.org and MediaMatters.org as sources for his information. Two extremely biased web sites. Now what kind of an idiot would use extremely biased web sites, huh? I asked that you supply us with a site that you would use to check your facts, I never asked you to back anything up, I simply asked for your source of references. All I wanted to know was if you wanted to check a fact what kind of site would you go to? All I wanted was an example, not a lecture.

But hey thanks for the info on how to use facts. Coming from a Democrat I will take your advice and, well, ignore it.

And I will agree that reliable unbiased sources are needed when your credibility is on the line.

The issue that I have with Olberman, and many others in the media is not that I disagree with their opinions, that is a moot point. What irks me is that they attempt to report something that they see as "fact" when it is plainly biased. There is a different between opinionated commentators, of which I believe Rush and Keith are, and journalists. And to be honest I believe journalism has gone by the wayside in the name of being the first one to report a story. Journalism has been replaced by speculation and has begun to be reported as factinstead of speculation. If a broadcaster is wrong about it the story dies off and the correct on the fly, if they are correct they are continually telling you that they were the first to "report" it. And trust me when I say ALL news agencies, I am not that naieve.

Quick question though, As a Democrat you told me about facts, any chance you could tell me about tax law now?:)

I'm one of those that believe in a flat tax.

The most ideal one of course is one where republicans/conservative/rwrnutcases pay 90% and the rest of us pay 10% and that a one time payment is required of Bush and Cheney of 100% of their worth.

I thought with you being a Democrat you might know about taxes. I am trying to get out of paying mine this year and needed some help.

I will however agree with you about the flat tax. We all pay the same; 5% of $500,000 or $500,000,000 (I believe those are interchangeable according to Pelosi) It will never get passed though because it will cause Democrats to lose the tool of class warfare by making statements like:

Unlike republicans I have to pay my taxes. I don't have loopholes and write offs and send money offshore after it's been laundered.

At least Dems hid it in plain sight like in a freezer.

Now whose fault is that? Best get a better job, a better accountant, or just sit and blame the right (again)? But on the bright side Obama is increasing tax revenues.

Everyone he appoints seems to have to pay some back taxes. There you go, tax reveue increased. He appoints a few more and we will be able to cover the stimulus package.

Maybe you could have Janeane Garafolo stand up for the Liberal Party.

Gov. Palin is a true conservative.

And Palin's clothes were paid for privately as well. The RNC is not a taxpayer funded entity. Do you know how I know Rush is helping the conservative movement? Because you all make a big deal about it.

The Republican Party needs a makeover that is less critical and moderate instead of cold,

The republicans need to get back to conservative principals. Bush was not a conservative, I am surprised you didn't like his liberal spending policies.

It is allowed to question the President of the United States, that didn't change after Obama took office. I hope you all keep complaining about Rush, as you are giving power to the conservative movement by putting it in the forefront. Thank you!

Please, provide a picture of Sarah Palin shopping at Neiman Marcus in or out. The Press followed her to all the places. Therefore, when those pictures were taken?

Almost all of this money came from private donations.

And that justifies pissing it away on extravagances? Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

I think we should keep someone like Rush Limbaugh in proper perspective. Mr. Limbaugh made 33 million dollars in 2007:

                                                              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rush_Limbaugh

Rush Limbaugh has never personally won his own public election and probably his biggest political action was being a "national precinct captain" for the Republican Party's Congressional victories in 1994 during the Clinton years.

Therefore, one could argue that Rush Limbaugh is nothing more than a political tool to be used by real politicians seeking to win public office.

Until Mr. Limbaugh actually wins his own election, holds a publicly elected seat and enacts law for a constituency, he is nothing more than just another blogger [like the rest of us], but, with a much louder voice!

                                                              All glory and no guts...

Some of you are guilty of the same thing you accuse republicans of: you believe and repeat everything said by democrats. Of course obama don't want people to listen to Rush, he's revealing too many of the democrats secrets. If obama is so perfect, why does he hide all his college records, his passport records, his birth certificate and his selective service records? All of which would prove or disprove his eligiblity to be president.

The true test of any one man's [or woman's] politics is the highest public office he [or she] is elected to by the people during active political life.

Mr. Limbaugh having not ever been elected to any public office leads me to believe he is either incapable of winning on his own merits or too selfish to take a public servants salary! Considering his salary in 2007 was 33 million dollars, it is easy too understand why he supports the conservative values of the trickle-down ideology of economics. While Mr. Limbaugh does donate monies to worthy charities, one could also argue that is just cover/spin or for tax write-offs and too hide other loopholes. See the facts:

                                                              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rush_Limbaugh

As a mere armchair quarterback in politics, Mr. Limbaugh is nothing more than pure entertainment. Otherwise, let us see him put his solutions and policies in action by winning representation of more than his own interest with an electoral victory. Then, and only then will his words actually mean something to someone other than a audience. Personally, I am neither impressed nor entertained by the man; of course I am probably considered too be whining about this mental recession since the fundamentals of our economy are strong!

I'm sure that you often group Americans into one of two camps, and forget that we are all Americans, but I can't blame you, you just need things made easier and color-coded in order to make it through life.

I most certainly hate the Republican party, but only slightly more than I hate the Democrats. I am, by no means, a Democrat, so I hate to ruin your pathetic and simple little stereotype. The Republican party is a joke, and it's supporters are so socially bankrupt that I am, quite frankly, ashamed to call them Americans.

Let me break it to you, and don't take this too hard, I know your life is rough right now, as a GOP apologists and all, but it's not just Democrats that hate your precious party, most of America does. That's why your party lost so pathetically that it was funny.

It's ok, soon we'll stop laughing at you, and forget all about you and your useless party.

I am sorry I believed in another president 100%. I didn't vote for either front runner this year because neither earned my vote. I do lean toward conservative values thus lean toward the republican party. I vote all over the map and believe the only way is to vote split ticket, honesty and integrity are key and I do my homework. The GOP better not go away because America as we know it will go too. No, not at all. Rush isn't doing half the damage to the GOP that the GOP is. The Republic party is a perversion of what it used to be, a totally different party. Rush and his kind are only exposing that to the public even more so than Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber did. The GOP is ruining itself, and I don't think it's current base is able to see that, for some sad reason.

This is not the party of Goldwater, it is the party that crushed Goldwater. If they want to put an entertainer at the front of their party to get some attention, they deserve the damage he does to their already pathetic image.

Personally, I think it's a shame that only the GOP fights for fiscal conservatism, because they only do it through lip-service. fiscal conservatism has been killed by this BS "social conservatism" (totalitarianism) that the GOP adopted to gain the votes of poor, religious people. The party that used to fight for Small Government, is now the party who wants to tell you who you can marry, who you can have consentual sex with and still be accept as a full citizen in your own country, what religions you must accept as truth, what medical proceedures you can use, what you can teach your children, etc etc. These people, and some of you GOP cultists here on Newsvine wouldn't know conservatism if it bit you in the ass.

It's not the same party anymore, it sold out to corporate greed and a desire for a massive government. They are no longer the party of Small Government and the rights for states to make their own laws. They are no longer the party of fiscal conservatism, by ANY stretch of the imagination. Your idea is based on political mythology and holds no water. I think this country will be around MUCH longer than pseudo-patriotism and theatrical religious fanaticism.
